Flooding
Monday morning, immediately following the storm, a professional water removal company was brought in to begin removing standing water, moisture in the air, and to dry out the flooring and walls. This entailed the following:
- Dehumidifiers, fans, the removal and cleaning of carpet and wall base, and the opening up the drywall (either through the drilled holes or removal of lower portion) worked in tandem to reduce moisture levels.
- The company took several moisture readings daily last week around walls and flooring to ensure they were below the threshold for microbial growth.
- Moisture readings indicated that areas were completely dried out prior to fans being removed. Additional repair work to floors and walls is ongoing.
Skylights
There are 37 skylights between the two buildings. Each one was shattered by the heavy hailstorm.
- Monday, September 25, debris was swept up and a roofing company quickly removed the remaining skylights and frames from the roof, placed plywood sheets over the openings, and covered these securely with tarps.
- Repair work will begin following a bidding process and approval from the Board.
Roof/Signs
We are working to secure new roofing, as well as repairs to the HVAC systems and outdoor signage. This work will occur over the next few months.
Bad Weather Days
We have two bad weather days built into our school calendar. This is a very unusual situation that we have used those days so early in the school year. Should we face additional extreme weather later this year as we have in the past two years, we will ask the Texas Educational Agency (TEA) for a waiver to avoid adding calendar days as make-up days. While we will do our best, we cannot confirm at this time that a waiver will be granted.
