September 15 to October 15
Each year in the U.S. Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month. It honors the contributions, cultures, and histories of Hispanic and Latinx Americans. The month begins on September 15 because it marks the independence days of several Latin American countries, including Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua.
During this time, various events, educational programs, and activities highlight the rich cultural heritage and achievements of Hispanic and Latinx communities in the U.S. It's a time to celebrate diversity and raise awareness about the significant impact these communities have had on American society.
Take a look at just some of the ways Meridian students and staff are celebrating.

Primary Announcements
The Primary Announcements have been focusing from September 23-October 4 on IB’s approaches to learning and on ways to take action. In connection to each ATL or action type, students are learning about the life of a Hispanic American who models using those skills in their life.
We’ve had a great mix of people to learn about including Maria Elena Salinas, Henry B. Gonzalez, Ellen Ochoa, Luis Von Ahn, and Diana Taurasi in connection to the Approaches to Learning and Jose Antonio Navarro, Irma Rangel, Cesar Chavez, José Andrés, and Mark Magaña as models of taking action. Watch the announcements for September 23 thru October 4 to hear about these individuals.
