Uniform Guidelines Reminder

The purpose of having uniforms is twofold:

  1. Reduce peer pressure surrounding personal appearance
  2. Remove distractions from the learning environment

Over time, we have relaxed some aspects of our original code. Remember when shoes had to be a neutral color? Remember when jeans were only allowed on Fridays?  Our students welcomed these changes and have also enjoyed the many free dress days and themed dress-up weeks that have become traditions at Meridian over the years.

We ask for your support as we focus on certain aspects of the uniform code that need reinforcement.

Length of Shorts and Skirts

The uniform guide indicates that shorts and skirts should be "Uniform shorts/Uniform skirts." As we do not prescribe where these items are purchased, we have found we need to offer more specifics regarding length.

  • Please ensure that shorts have at least a 6" inseam.

  • Skirts should measure at least 14" inches from top to bottom.

Outerwear

  • Pullover outerwear cannot have a hood. The exception is approved Meridian spirit wear items worn on Fridays.

  • Hoods must remain down inside the building.

  • The only approved colors for outerwear worn inside the building are Red, Gray, and Black.

  • Examples of non-approved colors are White, Tan, Brown, and Navy Blue.

Accessories

  • Accessories such as hair ties, headbands, belts, and jewelry should be minimalist in nature. Ties are not allowed unless it's a professional dress day.

  • Accessories beyond these items are not permitted.

Denim Jeans, Shorts and Skirts

  • These must be hemmed. Cut-offs and tattered hems are not permitted.

  • No holes, rips, or tears.

  • No acid wash.

  • Blue and black jeans are permitted; gray is not permitted.

  • Minimum of 6" inseam for shorts and 14" length (top to bottom) for skirts are required.

Shoes

  • Must be closed-toe with a closed back.

  • Not allowed: crocs/croc-style, sandals, slip-ons, or house shoes, slides, flip-flops.

  • Boots should be worn under pants and cannot be higher than the knee.

  • UGG-style boots can be worn over pants if they do not fit under pants.

Socks

  • Longer socks worn with shorts or skirts should be neutral in color.

  • Socks worn under pants can be any color.

Other Reminders

  • Black polos (9-12 only) must have the Meridian Lion logo embroidered (worn anytime during the week).
  • Leggings, yoga pants, and athletic shorts (e.g. basketball shorts) are not acceptable uniform bottoms.
  • Athletic skirts must be at least 14" long to be acceptable uniform bottoms.

Hats

New for 2025-2026:

  • Students may not wear hats of any kind inside the building.
  • Head coverings of any kind are not permitted inside the building unless they are for religious purposes.

Items not mentioned above and/or not specifically listed in the uniform guide may be deemed not allowed by the campus principal if they distract from the learning environment.

If you and/or your student have questions or concerns about any of the above, please reach out to your campus principal or assistant principal.

Thank you for your support!
