About 2024-2025 Meridian Competitive Tennis

  • For the 2024-2025 academic year, the Fall Developmental and Spring Competitive seasons will be combined to one long and impactful Winter Competitive Tennis season! The participation fee has increased to align with the length of the season. See Fees for more information.
  • Meridian plans to form the following teams this season: Coed Varsity and Coed Middle School.
  • Tryouts are Wednesday, September 25 from 2:15 - 4:30 p.m. at Cimarron Hills Tennis Center. Students must be registered for Competitive Tennis and physically eligible to try out. Participation in tryouts is required to be considered for a team. (See Tryouts.)
  • Meridian Tennis participates in the Texas State Tennis Tournament for the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletics League (TCSAAL). Competitive Tennis players must qualify for the State Tennis Tournament.
  • Practices begin the Wednesday after Fall Break (October 16) and continue through the Thursday before the State Tennis Tournament (February 27)
    • The Middle School team will practice up to twice a week (3 hours total).
    • The Varsity teams will practice up to twice a week (3.5 hours total).
  • Matches: 
    • The Middle School team will have the opportunity to participate in up to three matches before the State Tennis Tournament. 
    • The Varsity teams will have the opportunity to participate in up to four matches before the State Tennis Tournament.
  • State qualifications: Tennis players must attend all practices and all available matches and demonstrate a consistent positive attitude while performing at their best to be considered for the State team.
  • Participation fees guarantee practice opportunities. Playing time must be earned based on skills demonstrated, practice effort and attendance, Tennis IQ, and sportsmanship. Playing time is determined by the coach.
  • Parents/guardians will need to volunteer to support their student athlete’s team.
  • Parents/guardians are responsible for providing or coordinating transportation. 
  • All teams will use TeamApp to stay current on all their team’s happenings. TeamApp can also be used to coordinate transportation and team social gatherings. (Instructions for joining this season’s TeamApp will be sent in your Welcome email the school day after teams are formed.)
  • Participants:
    • 7th-12th grade students. (MS = 7th & 8th grades. Varsity = 9th-12th grades. 8th grade students could be asked to play up to the Varsity team.)
    • All genders.
    • Participants
      • The Coed Middle School team will consist of up to eight 7th & 8th grade qualified tennis players.
      • The Coed Varsity team will consist of 12-16 qualified 9th-12th grade tennis players. Exceptional 8th grade tennis player  could be asked to “play up” and be offered a spot on the Varsity team..
  • Equipment & Uniforms: Students will need to provide their own tennis racket and wear athletic clothes and shoes to practices. Black tennis bottoms required for competitions. (A Meridian Tennis jersey will be loaned for the season. Each participant will receive a Meridian Tennis long-sleeved  spirit wear shirt, which they can keep and can be worn as a practice shirt and to school as spirit wear on Fridays.)

 

Important Dates for 2023-2024 Spring Competitive Tennis

Monday, September 9 - Registration opens

Monday, September 16 - Meet the Coaches event during Advisory (1:50 - 2:15 p.m.)  in the Mays Lobby. Open to parents/guardians and students.

Thursday, September 19 - Registration closes at 9 p.m. No late registrations!

Thursday, September 19 - Physical forms due

Wednesday, September 25 - Tryouts

Thursday, September 26 - Tryout Results posted here between 5 - 10 p.m.

Friday, September 27 - Welcome emails sent and invoices for participation fees sent to parent/guardian via MySchoolBucks

Tuesday, October 1 - Participation fee invoices due (or first half due if by payment plan)

Wednesday, October 16 practices start. 8th grade students are excused from practice due to Camp Olympia.

Thursday, October 17 - 8th grade students are excused from practice due to Camp Olympia.

Saturday, November 12 - Tennis photos. See 2024-25 Sports Photos for details.

Friday, November 15 from 4:45 - 6:15 p.m. - Intrasquad match at Cimarron Hills

December 1 - Second half of payment plan due

Thursday, February 28 - Last practice

Saturday, March 1 - TCSAAL State Tennis Tournament at Texas State University

Monday, April 28 at 5:30 p.m. - Athletics Awards Ceremony for all competitive sports

Registration is now closed. It ended at 9 p.m. on Thursday, September 19.

No Late Registrations accepted!

Check your registration status

 

Important! Student athletes and parents/guardians should check the Sports Registration Status before  registration closes to ensure their registration was successful. If you do not see your name on the registration status, and you registered before it was last timestamped, please email Meridian Athletics to check on your registration status by 5 p.m. on September 19 so your registration issues can be resolved BEFORE registration closes.

 

Lettering Requirements

Lettering requirements will be set and communicated before practices start.

Lettering is reserved for Varsity teams.
