She holds a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from the University of Texas Pan American and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Texas State. Ms. Sherrill began her career as a designer working for various design firms. In 2009, while pursuing her master’s degree, she began teaching at Donna High School. Though she never set out to be a teacher, she realized the huge impact she could have on the lives of her students. She decided to leave the design industry to pursue her new passion, teaching. She continued her teaching journey as a professor at the University of the Incarnate Word and The Art Institute in San Antonio where she taught various courses in Graphic Design, Product Design, Sustainable Design Issues and Topics, Sculpture, and Photography.
Sarah moved to Round Rock when her husband was stationed at Fort Hood in 2012 and spent the next 7 years as a Career & Technology Teacher, Art Teacher, and Fine Arts Department Chair at Round Rock High School. One of her proudest accomplishments was creating the Game Design and Graphic Design Programs at RRHS, which she built from the ground up. Ms. Sherrill also co-created The Dragon Printshop, a student-run, wide-format print facility and design center. During her time at RRHS, she assumed the dual roles of an innovative classroom educator and a passionate equity leader. In both capacities, she worked to create a more inclusive learning environment and address disparities in student outcomes. Sarah has co-created initiatives that have greatly impacted the RRISD district in the areas of campus culture and educational equity including: RRHS Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity Committee for Teachers, Students and Parents. She was a keynote speaker at the Model Schools Conference in Nashville, TN and at SXSW in Austin, TX. She also delivered professional development to RRISD CTE Teachers and led training on technology integration district wide. Ms. Sherrill was honored by her peers and community as Round Rock High School CTE Department Teacher of the Year in 2017.
Sarah is passionate about helping students achieve their fullest potential. Her educational philosophy is that schools must equip students with real-world skills by providing them with quality instruction, challenging learning opportunities, and mentorship. Her body of work aligns with Meridian’s core values of inclusivity, growth, vision and commitment to equity. Sarah strongly believes educators are developing the next generation of creative thinkers and business leaders.
In her spare time, Sarah is a freelance designer and illustrator. She continues to showcase her work throughout the Rio Grande Valley, Corpus Christi and Austin. She loves spending time with her two daughters, her husband and her two dogs. Sarah and her daughters are very excited to be a part of the Meridian family.
