Meridian Math Track 2 Accelerated Program

Meridian Math Track 2 Program

Does your student eat, sleep, and dream about math?

If your student loves math and has already mastered the math course for their grade, they might qualify for our Math Track 2 program.

Students who are interested in participating in the accelerated Math Track 2 program must do so by testing out of specific math classes. Read on for more information about what this means, requirements, and test dates.

Please note: Meridian’s Math Track 1 is already accelerated and is appropriate for the large majority of Meridian School students. Students on Meridian Track 1 can go on to college and be successful in engineering majors, so don't be discouraged if they do not pass the Credit by Exam (CBE) requirements to get on Meridian Track 2.

Speak with your grade level counselor if you are interested in Math Track 2 and before taking a CBE or outside accredited course. Only current 7th – 9th grade students may take an accredited course to qualify for Math Track 2.

10th, 11th, and 12th grade: Nick Manuzsak

How to qualify to participate in Meridian’s Track 2 Math program

Students who would like to participate in the accelerated Math Track 2 program must do so by testing out of specific math classes. They have two options to do this: Scoring an 80 or higher on a Credit by Exam or completing and passing an outside accredited course. Only current 7th – 9th grade students may take an accredited course to qualify for Math Track 2.

Option 2: Take An Outside Accredited Course for High School Credit

This option is only for current 7th – 9th grade

Students may opt to take an accredited Algebra 1, Geometry, or Algebra 2 course outside of Meridian. For example, UT and Texas Tech offer flexible online courses for high school credit. This is the recommended option, as it is most likely to ensure that students are building a strong mathematical foundation for future advanced coursework. Please read this 6th-9th grade Secondary Meridian Math Tracks and Qualifying Letter for details. You may explore course options at:

K-16 Education Center at the University of Texas at Austin

Texas Tech University ISD (TTUISD)

In most cases, these courses are offered in two parts, semester one and semester two. Students must complete both parts of these courses by the new school year and receive an overall passing grade of 70%.

Note:  We do not recommend math acceleration for students who achieve less than 80% in the course.

However UT and TTUISD offer accredited courses, so per state law a grade of 70% for each part will be accepted if the student and parent choose to move forward with this passing grade. In order to be placed in Meridian Track 2 Math, a transcript showing course completion must be received prior to the first day of the semester.

If a student is taking an accredited math course outside of Meridian they should speak with their grade level counselor prior to registering for the course. This is very important to ensure that they are applying for the correct course.

6th and 7th grade: Stefanie Zook

8th and 9th grade: Andy Harvey

10th, 11th, and 12th grade: Nick Manuzsak

Please note the following:

  • It is the family/student's responsibility to register and pay for accredited math courses taken outside of Meridian. Students should seek guidance from their grade level counselor.

  • Students taking a math course outside of Meridian must achieve an overall passing grade of 70%, but it is recommended that they achieve at least an 80% in order to advance to the next math class.

  • The official transcript of their course must arrive to Meridian prior to the first day of the school year in order for them to be placed in the next math class for that year.
