Week of May 15, 2024

FROM THE PRINCIPALcrystal

Hello families,

Congratulations to Mr. Kesterson’s and Mrs. Fajardo’s advisories for raising over $1,000 each! They will receive free dress day passes. We have so many advisory rooms that are just a couple $100 away from free dress day! It is not too late to donate!

Please remember that next Wednesday is a full day of school (4:10 dismissal) and there will be no After School 6-12 next Thursday. Students should be picked up during carline. Make sure you know which carline they will be in. Waiters will operate as normal.

Please pick up some summer reading and support our library this last week of school during the final secondary scholastic book fair. ELA classrooms will rotate through the fair during class time.

Students will have free dress on the last day of school, next Thursday!

Thank you!

Crystal Lane,

MYP Principal

District News

No Triple A or After School on the last day of school

Triple A and After School 6–12 does not operate on the last day of each semester; therefore there will be no Triple A or After School 6–12 Thursday, May 23. Waiters will operate as usual. All students must be picked up in the carline. Please communicate pick up arrangements with your students and if you use Pikmykid update your pick up mode.

Reminder: Next Wednesday, May 22 is a full day of school.

Please Clear Obligations: Lunch balances/Library books

Please have your student return any overdue books to the library and log into your students’ MySchoolBucks account and pay any outstanding lunch balances before the end of May. Lunch balances carry over from year to year and can prevent a student from participating in extracurricular activities.

Any extra funds in your child's school lunch account automatically roll over to the next school year. If you have any questions, please contact Kaylee Torres.

Yearbooks have arrived!

Secondary yearbooks will be distributed during advisory tomorrow Thursday, May 16. Students will be given their order ticket to present when picking up their book. Students may not pick up books for siblings. Students may also get their book during lunch on Friday, May 17.

Primary yearbooks will be distributed to classrooms next week Tuesday, May 21. The books will be sent home with each primary student that purchased a yearbook, so please make sure that the yearbook is accounted for that day.

24-25 Volunteer Interest Survey

We expect all of our parents and guardians to volunteer at least 20 hours during the school year. We want to know where your interests and availability lie to better target our volunteer opportunities. Please complete this 2-minute survey to help us understand how you would like to be involved in our community during the 24-25 school year.

This week: Ridwell plastic film recycling drive

We’ve already collected two trunks full of plastic bags – thank you! Haven’t dropped off your bags, yet? There’s still time to join our Ridwell recycling drive! This is what can be recycled

  • May 13-16: Drop them off in one of our labeled bins in each school lobby!
  • Through May 31: If 10 people sign up for Ridwell services through this link, the school will receive free plastic film recycling all next year!

Expanded Meridian Orchard: Thank you

Pranav A. finished his Eagle Scout project by expanding the orchard with additional fig trees and irrigation. The original orchard was planted in 2018 by Ryan Trefny as an Eagle Scout project.

MYP RAVE Review

MYPA RAVE (Recognize A Valued Employee) Review is an unsolicited acknowledgement of a Meridian employee who has demonstrated a special effort, a job well done, a project of quality workmanship and/or a caring and sensitive attitude.

A RAVE review is not just a pat on the back for doing a good job. Rather it is recognition for something exemplary and gives you the opportunity to recognize a Meridian employee who has truly gone above and beyond the call of duty.

This may be any employee on campus, such as but not limited to teachers, admin, office staff, interventionists, etc. Those who are recognized will receive a framed certificate with the reason provided. Submit your reviews by Wednesday, May 22!

Secondary Scholastic Book Fair

May 17 - 23

BFStock up on books for summer to keep your students reading! All proceeds will be used to add more books to our secondary libraries! Our Secondary Scholastic Book Fair takes place in the Middle School Library starting Friday, May 17 through the last day of school on May 23. Students may shop during the week from 7:45 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Check out our Book Fair Homepage for a preview of what’s at the fair or to purchase books online. Online shopping is from May 17-23. Books purchased online ship to your home and purchases of $25 or more ship free. You can add funds to your student’s eWallet, or we also accept checks (payable to Meridian World School), cash, and Apple Pay. Thank you for supporting our libraries!

6th grade families: Important immunization requirements

Your School Health Team is planning ahead for the 24-25 school year! As a Texas State requirement, students must receive a Meningococcal and updated Tdap vaccination before 7th grade. Students will not be able to start the school year without proof of receiving these immunizations (or an up-to-date medical or conscious exemption). Email immunization records to [email protected] or reach out with any questions or concerns. Again, these immunizations are needed prior to the start of the 24-25 school year.

MYP (6-10) ManageBac report cards

In addition to the report cards available in Skyward, students will also receive MYP report cards through ManageBac – an email from ManageBac will be sent when they are ready for viewing. The MYP report card may different slightly from what you see in Skyward.

How teachers determine these MYP grades: Check out this slide deck linked here and/or read through this informational handout. Read page three in the informational handout, as it describes what the final MYP grades mean at each achievement level.

How to access the MYP report card on ManageBac: Here's written step-by-step directions for you!

Please note: These are produced solely for the Middle Years Programme purposes and are not published on a student's Meridian transcript. Should you have questions, please feel free to email Ms. Ogo.
